Song of the Day (Halloween Edition): 'Immigrant Song,' Dread Zeppelin

By Jay Lustig/The Star-Ledger The Star-Ledger

The cover of Dread Zeppelin's 1990 album, "Un-Led-Ed."

For more than 20 years, Dread Zeppelin has been pursuing its warped vision, playing Led Zeppelin songs in a reggae style, with vocals by an Elvis Presley (late, Vegas period) impersonator. If nothing else, their performances make you think about how much Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant borrowed from the King, in terms of his phrasing and his posing.

Dread Zeppelin made a pretty big splash in the early '90s and are still around, though, based in Los Angeles as they are, they don't make it to the East Coast very often. Anyway, here is Dread Zeppelin's version of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." Happy Halloween!

Led Zeppelin released "Immigrant Song" on its 1970 album, "Led Zeppelin III," and Dread Zeppelin covered it on its 1990 debut album, "Un-Led-Ed."

Songs of the Day are posted Mon.-Thu. at 3 p.m. Song of the Week, which will focus on contemporary chart hits, will be posted on Friday. For past Songs of the Day, click here
