Jets likely without DT Mike DeVito for Redskins matchup

By Conor Orr/The Star-Ledger The Star-Ledger

Robert Sciarrino/The Star-Ledger Mike DeVito injured his knee before the Week 7 San Diego Chargers game and sustained an MCL injury in the other knee Sunday.

Rex Ryan said that Jets DT Mike DeVito will likely not play against the Washington Redskins this week after sustaining an MCL injury to his left knee on Sunday. DeVito injured his right knee before a Week 7 matchup against the San Diefo Chargers, missing two weeks.

"Looks like he's got a little bit of a knee, MCL thing," Ryan said. "I don't think Mike is going to play this week."

On Shonn Greene, who had bruised ribs heading into the matchup, Ryan said he thought it was a good example of playing through some pain. He did not think Greene re-aggravated the injury.

"It looked like a bunch (of pain)," Ryan said of Greene. "He was getting up like Jim Brown every time, so, hopefully he'll get better and better as the week goes on and hopefully that pain will be behind him.

"But it was clear that he was in discomfort for sure."

Other injury notes...

+ Brodney Pool, who played for the first time since the team's last win against Buffalo, said his knee held up fine a day later.

+ Ryan said that he hopes to see Jeremy Kerley (knee) ready for this week.

The Jets released S Emanuel Cook and bumped up Tracy Wilson from the practice squad.

Ryan said Wilson was possibly the "hardest working guy we've got on this team."

OLB Eddie Jones was also released from the practice squad and OLB Ricky Sapp came back on.

Ryan thought the performance by the offensive line, which averaged six yards per carry, was the best they've had all season. Sanchez was not sacked, either.

"I think we averaged close to six yards a carry or something like that, so that right there will tell you — we were opening up holes. I thought John Conner played well as well at fullback, but the line did a great job," Ryan said. "That's a team that stunts a lot and I think our guys did a great job passing things off on the move. And that looked like the New York Jet offensive line, I was really impressed with the way we were protecting the quarterback and knocking some guys off the football."

Ryan said his three defensive standouts were Aaron Maybin ("He played with his hair on fire, it's encouraging to watch. Obviously that game was special to him. Anytime you play against a team that's released you, you want to have a great game") along with Sione Pouha and David Harris.

On Pouha, Ryan said: "When you see us against the run, we've really improved and a lot of that has to do with the way he's playing."

Ryan gave props to wide receiver Patrick Turner for what he called the "best (blocking performance) we've had all year by a wideout."

The game was also T.J. Conley's best of the year, Ryan said.
