Big East Rewind: Rutgers and Louisville get big wins

A look back at what happened this weekend in the Big East Conference:

What we learned: If you thought the league standings were jumbled before this weekend, take a look at them now.

After Rutgers beat first-place Cincinnati 20-3 and Louisville knocked off Connecticut 34-20, there are now five teams that have either 4-2 or 3-2 conference records with two weeks left in the season. The Scarlet Knights and Cardinals are the new league leaders at 4-2, and the Bearcats, West Virginia and Pittsburgh are all a half-game behind.

If head-to-head tiebreakers can't be used to break a logjam at the end of the regular season, the league's BCS bowl representative might have to be determined by which team is rated highest in the final BCS standings.

But the way things have gone in this league all season, nothing can be predicted concerning what the last two weeks will bring.

Top performance: Freshman Jawan Jamison rushed for a career-high 200 yards and scored twice, leading Rutgers (8-3, 4-2) past Cincinnati (7-3, 3-2). The Scarlet Knights, who were picked to finish last in the conference, now have a legitimate shot at their first BCS bowl invitation.

Biggest disappointment: South Florida (5-5) is still having trouble winning the close ones. The Bulls fell to Miami (Fla.) 6-3 on a last-second field goal in a non-league game, giving them four losses by six or fewer points. On top of that, USF played most of the second half without quarterback B.J. Daniels, who was sidelined by a shoulder injury early in the third quarter.

Looking ahead: All four games next week will impact the wild conference race. On Friday, Pitt (5-5, 3-2) visits West Virginia (7-3, 3-2) in the latest edition of their Backyard Brawl. Also Friday, Louisville (6-5 overall) travels to USF. On Saturday, Cincinnati visits Syracuse (5-5, 1-4), and Rutgers closes its season at UConn (4-6, 2-3).
