Car may struggle to sell if smoked in

Those who smoke in their cars may wipe as much as £500 off the value when it comes to selling it.

That is according to Autorola, which estimated that a vehicle driven by a smoker can reduce values anywhere between £250 and £500 depending on the make and model.

Peter Groftehauge, chief executive of the company, stated that large executive cars in particular can have their resale value affected when the owner light up behind the wheel.

He suggested that motors may struggle to sell at all unless the seller has it valeted.

"You are likely never to get rid of the smoking smell completely, but a comprehensive interior clean from a professional automotive cleaning specialist should make a big difference," Mr Groftehauge added.

A recent survey by YouGov on behalf of Craigslist found that Britons would rather buy a used car from US president Barack Obama or German chancellor Angela Merkel than British prime minister David Cameron.
