Some things will never change

It’s incredible what is going on in our world today and how it’s affecting each of our lives in some way. I’ve been around long enough to remember watching reruns of the late-1950s Ed Sullivan show in the ’60s, and seeing Elvis Presley from the waist up because the producers thought the way he moved his hips was too provocative for television. It was a time when things seemed much more simple and small. A president died and a whole nation grieved.

Just under 40 years later, the major scare of the year 2000 was that everything was going to crash – our computers, the stock market, and life as we knew it. Of course, it never happened, but one thing did happen. We became dependent on things more than people.

The Bible says in the last days knowledge shall increase greatly (Daniel 12:4). One thing I have observed is how amazingly technology has increased, and our morals and manners and love have decreased. Our need for God has been desensitized by the business of the world’s instant news, sports, phones, email, social networks, Wi-Fi apparatus, etc. The world is no longer simple and small.

The Bible says, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1). The word perilous is the Greek word chalepos: the word describes a society that is barren of virtue, but abounding with vices. I read the newspaper and see the governments, wars, terror threats, unemployment, church compromise, “who trusts who,” a nation divided, knowing it’s the “beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:8).

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). I know for myself, I need to know what way, who has the truth, and will it bring life for my family and those who are looking. With all that is going on in our world, and in a lot of cases in our communities, someone we know, a loved one, or even a family member, is looking for the same thing.

We’ll hear many saying that the answer is in getting a new president, or new leaders, or even more taxes. There are many voices saying many things. But one thing is for sure – a lot of people are looking for something different, something they have never done before.

I know we’ve all probably heard the saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. One thing has never changed throughout the years, and that is that the answer lies in faith and prayer, coming to the Lord, asking him to help, and to give you direction. In the past, you may have been disappointed, not getting the answer you expected. Don’t give up on him. He got up on that cross to give all of us a chance. Know there are family members as well as complete strangers praying for you, who believe that if you will trust in his grace and love through these times, you will be OK. Just ask Jesus for a hand. He showed you that he was willing to give you his life.
