A welcome addition to East Sussex, this pretty boutique stocks high-end fashion from classic to quirky pieces hard to find outside London. Doing just what it says on the tin - selling only black, white or denim garments - this swish Cheshire store is only a year old but has already secured exclusive designs from British luminaries such as Richard Nicoll and Preen Collection. People will travel miles to go to Emporium Kalu in County Kildare, with its fairy-tale, French-influenced interiors. Favourite labels include Nicole Farhi, Vivienne Westwood and Jenny Packham. For 35 years Flannels has been at the heart of Manchester's designer image, selling luxury labels to the city's dedicated fashion followers. There are now branches in Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Nottingham, but autumn favourites at the new flagship store in Spinningfields are Miu Miu's glitter platform sandal and Mary Katrantzou's strapless print dress.
