Former Cincinnati union president Diana Frey has been arrested on a pretrial violation charge.
The 51-year-old West Price Hill resident was arrested Friday morning by U.S. Marshals at the marshalsÂ’ office on Fifth Street Downtown and taken to the Hamilton County jail. She was detained on an open federal warrant and was being held at the jail for the U.S. Marshals, according to the arrest report.
No one from the U.S. Marshals was available for comment this weekend, and FreyÂ’s attorney also could not be reached for comment Saturday. She is due to appear in court Monday.
Frey pleaded guilty Sept. 21 to a wire fraud count alleging she took more than $750,000 from members of the union she founded, Cincinnati Organized and Dedicated Employees. She led the union of middle managers, professionals and technical employees until being ousted after her indictment.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Susan Dlott allowed Frey to remain free pending sentencing, which could take place later this year or early next after pre-sentencing reports are prepared. Frey faces 20 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine.
Frey also faces a civil suit filed by CODE in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. The suit is aimed at preventing Frey from receiving any of her city pension benefits, which could help the union recoup its losses.
In August, the city fired Frey from her $64,000-a-year post as an administrative specialist with the Metropolitan Sewer District.
On Sept. 12, the Enquirer reported that Frey and a few close relatives bought, sold or transferred a half dozen homes in a pocket of West Price Hill during the years that she allegedly embezzled from the union.
On Oct. 4, Frey wrecked her Chrysler Crossfire sports car in a shopping mall parking lot in Westwood. She was taken to a hospital and released the same day.
