Four days after hobbling around the locker room in a protective boot, Elvis Dumervil was back on the practice field for the Broncos on Friday. The team is hopeful the star defensive end will be able to play Sunday against the Lions.
Dumervil is officially listed as questionable on the injury report because of a sprained ankle, suffered last week against Miami. Dumervil has struggled to stay healthy this season. He suffered a shoulder injury just before the season opener and missed two games earlier this season.
"You don't want to get negative about it, so you stay positive and keep working," coach John Fox said. "He's a tough-minded guy. He'll be fine."
Fox said Dumervil will be a "game-time decision" made Sunday morning after Dumervil tests the ankle at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
"We're obviously better with him than without him," Fox said.
Defensive tackle Marcus Thomas, who was added to the injury report Thursday because of a sore knee, is also listed as questionable.
Safety Brian Dawkins (illness) and tight end Julius Thomas (ankle) are probable.
Insult to injury.
As if Willis McGahee hadn't already paid enough.
Not only did the Broncos running back suffer a broken bone in his hand when he stuck it in the face mask of a Dolphins player Sunday and receive a personal foul penalty, he was fined $7,500 by the NFL for the infraction.
McGahee had surgery Tuesday to repair the broken bone, and he has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Detroit. Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball will share carries in McGahee's absence.
It wasn't the only fine from the game. Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell was fined $15,000 for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Tim Tebow.
Bell was also penalized for hitting Tebow in the face on the play.
