Artist Spotlight: Elvis Perkins

Singer/songwriter Elvis Perkins.

Endearing, sometimes melancholy acoustic singer/songwriterism in the classical tradition. The son of Hollywood legend Anthony Perkins and photographer Berry Berenson, Elvis grew up in New York and Los Angeles, playing in a few bands while studying classical guitar and gaining an appreciation for retro folk-rock. Following the death of his parents (Anthony Perkins died of AIDS in 1992 and Berenson died in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks), Elvis released his debut album, the somber Ash Wednesday , in 2007. His touring band, Elvis Perkins In Dearland, released an album of the same name in 2009.

Some things will never change

It’s incredible what is going on in our world today and how it’s affecting each of our lives in some way. I’ve been around long enough to remember watching reruns of the late-1950s Ed Sullivan show in the ’60s, and seeing Elvis Presley from the waist up because the producers thought the way he moved his hips was too provocative for television. It was a time when things seemed much more simple and small. A president died and a whole nation grieved.
