Roy Halladay allowed a pair of hits in seven innings and drove in three runs with the second double of his career last night, leading Philadelphia to a 9-0 road victory over Cincinnati.
Halladay (16-5) gave up Brandon Phillips’s leadoff single in the first inning, then dominated the team he no-hit in the playoffs last season. His bases-loaded double in the sixth inning off Bronson Arroyo (8-11) made it 6-0.
Ryan Howard hit two of the Phillies’ four homers, giving him 29. He also reached 100 RBIs for the sixth straight year, a team record.
Raul Ibanez returned from a strained groin and had a two-run homer among his three hits. Arroyo has given up the most homers in the majors.
Cincinnati managed four hits while getting blanked for the seventh time. Philadelphia’s 18 shutouts lead the majors.
Tigers 2, Royals 1 - Ramon Santiago hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Detroit a home win over Kansas City.
Detroit’s Doug Fister retired the first 18 hitters. He ended up allowing a run and four hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out six.
Rangers 2, Rays 0 - Josh Hamilton hit a towering home run and Scott Feldman threw six scoreless innings in a spot start for Texas in a home win over Tampa Bay.
Dodgers 8, Padres 5 - Andre Ethier’s grand slam capped an eight-run second inning that included six walks by Tim Stauffer - three with the bases loaded - to help host Los Angeles, which has won seven of eight.
Cubs 5, Giants 2 - Alfonso Soriano drove in two runs and hit one of the longest homers at AT&T Park, leading Chicago over host San Francisco, which lost its third in a row.
Soriano’s second-inning solo shot traveled an estimated 445 feet, bouncing onto the concourse above the left-field bleachers. Only Andres Galarraga has hit one farther to left field, an estimated 475 feet Sept. 18, 2001, off Roy Oswalt.
Diamondbacks9, Rockies 4 - Miguel Montero and Justin Upton each homered and drove in three runs, helping Arizona beat Colorado to tie a team record with its 11th straight home win. The NL West-leading Diamondbacks have won eight straight overall.
Cardinals 2, Brewers 1 - Edwin Jackson (4-2) scattered six hits in seven innings and singled home the go-ahead run to help St. Louis beat host Milwaukee.
Indians 6, Athletics 2 - Carlos Santana and Jack Hannahan hit two-run homers for host Cleveland.
Angels 13, Mariners 6 - Mike Trout homered twice and drove in five runs to lead visiting Los Angeles’s rout. Trout, the youngest player in the majors at 20 years 23 days, started the onslaught in the second with a solo shot into the left-field bullpen off Anthony Vasquez (1-1), who was making his second big-league start.
Nationals 9, Braves 2 - Ryan Zimmerman had three hits, including a three-run home run, and Washington hit four homers to beat Jair Jurrjens (13-6) and host Atlanta.
Astros 8, Pirates 2 - Rookie Henry Sosa gave up two hits and struck out seven over six innings, Matt Downs got his league-leading 12th pinch-hit RBI, and Houston rallied for a home win over Pittsburgh.
Jose Altuve homered in the fifth against Charlie Morton (9-8) to tie it 2-2 and the Astros broke loose with six runs on a season-high seven hits in the sixth inning.
Marlins 6, Mets 0 - Javier Vazquez gave up only three singles in seven innings for his first win in more than a month and Florida beat host New York with a five-run seventh.
White Sox 8, Twins 6 - Alejandro De Aza drove in a career-high four runs to lead host Chicago past Minnesota.
Orioles 6, Blue Jays 5 - Ryan Adams capped a two-run, 10th-inning rally with an RBI single and host Baltimore beat Toronto.
