OpenBSD 5.0 Now Available for Download

Barely six months after the launch of the version 4.9, OpenBSD has stepped into its version 5.0, Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) announced.

The OpenBSD 5.0 happens to be the latest release of the BSD based, free UNIX like OS platform, and according to the company, it brings along with it a handful of brand new and upgraded performance enhancement, drivers as well as many other new features.

OpenBSD 5.0is accompanied by the KDE3.5.10, Xfce 4.8.0 and GNOME 2.32.2 desktop environments. In addition, it also features quite a few new, as well as updated functionalities including the versions 3.5.19, 3.16.18 and 5.0 of Firefox.

PHP 5.2.17, 5.3.6, LibreOffice 3.4 and Chrome 12 have also made their way into the new version of the OS.

"We are pleased to announce the official release of OpenBSD 5.0," BSD said in a statement, according to a report bythe Register.

"This is our 30th release on CD-ROM (and 31st via FTP). We remain proud of OpenBSD's record of more than ten years with only two remote holes in the default install," it added.
