The King of Halloween

CORNWALL — When T.J. Jackson and his girlfriend Daphne Brabant moved into their home on McDonell Crescent they had no idea they would become the main attraction on Halloween.

What started out as having a handful of children arrive at their door quickly changed when Elvis showed up.

"We had hardly any kids here," said Brabant.

After living in the area for a short time, the couple decided to try something different to attract more children and adults.

Jackson, an Elvis impersonator, decided he would put on a show as Elvis to see what would happen.

"It's a lot of fun," Jackson said.

The crowd grew and grew until about 300 kids and adults came across the home or stayed to dance in the driveway.

"Some (of the kids) will trick-or-treat and then come back for the show," she said.

Now, the couple celebrates Halloween by putting on their Halloween Elvis show every year.

For about two hours, Jackson has his speakers loud and his voice heard throughout the area.

He changes his outfits a few times throughout the performance to offer some variety.

But Jackson doesn't only use Halloween to dress up.

Elvis is a major part of his life from his singing to the outfits he wears.

Currently, there are six outfits he wears, three of them hand-made himself to ensure he gets the outfit precisely like the one Elvis wore. "We do this because there are people out there who have seen him live and we want to give them a good show like his," Jackson said.

With a self-owned, full time business called Akwesasne Seamless Gutters, the Jackson-Brabant couple are quite busy, but there is always time for a competition or show.
