Devotees celebrate Brown Madonna Silver Jubilee rites

A THRONG of Mama Mary devotees joyously celebrated the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the Shrine of the Brown Madonna last Sunday at Km. 7, Asin Road. Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet. A Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Pr. Joey Paduyao, Parish Priest of Don Bosco Chruch at Lucban highlight the 25th October4'sary feast of the place of worship.

The Shrine which has become a very popular praying place for pilgrimages through the years was developed and maintained by the National Correspondents Club of Baguio (NCCB) under my humble leadership. Personally I consider the religious-spiritual project as the closest to my heart among the various civic-social and infra undertakings which yours truly initiated and continue to coordinate since 1973.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

The Shrine of the Brown Madonna inside a man-made rock cave is a work of love and prayers. It is a symbol of our abiding faith and enduring affection to the Blessed Mother Mary and the Holy Trinity. It also symbolizes our aspiration for national unity, solidarity, progress and world peace.

A concelebrated mass offered by the late Bishop Emeliano Madangen, Apostolic Vicar of the City of Baguio and the Mountain Provinces climaxed the Shrine's inaugural celebration on October 4, 1986. The special event was attended by national and local government dignitaries, prominent media personalities, NCCB'ers and devotees from the city and nearby Benguet towns.

The weather last Sunday morning was extremely cooperative. After the heavy rains a day before the feast the sun came out from the cloudy sky. It was like a miracle to behold. Of course we were elated that finally after resetting the activity for at least two times due to typhoons Pedring and Quiel which came in succession, October4'sary came to fruition in the spirit of caring and sharing.

As the executive chairman of the celebration, I would like on behalf of the Ladies of the Shrine of the Brown Madonna and the NCCB to thank with deep gratitude Rev. Pr. Joey, the Don Bosco Knights of Columbus Chapter choral ensemble, PHASES Learning Center and all the devotees who shared or attended the occasion with us.

Special "salamat po" to Rev. Fr. Joey who also hosted a “pinikpikan and intuno nga bangos” fellowship get together lunch after the Eucharistic rites. Thank you also to GSO head Romy Concio for his support.

Mabuhay tayong lahat.
