WGSN fashion expert Heidi Dyt and WA hairdressing icon Lee Preston teamed up to reveal the future looks of fashion and style. Reviewing real time fashion and style collections alongside hair trends the seminar provided a unique insight for Hair Expo stylists - writes Ashleigh Sharman .
Theory met practice at the On.Trend Fashion Forecast, sponsored by Goldwell , with the half trend forecast, half creative look ‘n’ learn seminar delivering a breakdown of global ‘real time and near future trends’ then applied to hair styling and in-salon applications.
Long understood as the leader in deciphering global style directions, WGSN (Werth Global Style Network) fashionista-in-chief Heidi Dyt talked of the bubbling up and trickling down of trends that is fluid and constant.
“We are seeing a redefinition of luxury, gender, tradition and what we see as normal,” said Heidi. “Seemingly opposite messages co-exist with balance.”
Cataloguing trends of Street Style , Grunge Luxe , Bright Block Colour , Gamine and Vintage Inspiration Heidi praised not only the many choices available but the rise of strongly defined characters within the style sphere such as musician’s Adele and Katy Perry, model Miranda Kerr and actresses Natalie Portman and Emma Watson.
“For hair, nourishing and hydrating services will be key,” stated Heidi who added that along with a resurgence of ginger tones to hair, short crops and textural colour were becoming more prevalent.
Lee Preston and Barney Gleeson arrived onstage to work with predicted WGSN AW12 trends 360 Degrees (movement), Your Space (control) and Faux Real (texture) alongside the fashion creations of fellow WA style master Aurelio Costarella.
Fusing fashion and hair, the 14 year creative partnership between Lee and Aurelio has seen a synergy of ideas from editorial shoots to fashion week collaborations.
“I have trust with Aurelio,” said Lee. “I know what he likes and what he doesn’t like. Where he is at creatively always comes back to me in the salon”.
360 Degrees revealed a 3D approach to hair with circular shapes, impressive volume, elegant rolls and origami shapes; Your Space displayed neatness and balance, the evolution of the bun and pretty half-up half-down straight styles and Faux Real delivered texture through playful plaits, modern beehives and glossy waves.
An exciting fashion and styling future is guaranteed.
