Syracuse vs. Cincinnati Football: Coach Marrone Post-Game Syracuse University football head coach Doug Marrone talks to the media following the Orange's 30-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.
The losses keep piling up for the Syracuse football team, and now more fans are seeing them coming. On Saturday, the Orange (5-6, 1-5 Big East) dropped its final home game of the season, falling 30-13 to the Cincinnati Bearcats for the team's fourth loss in a row.
Before Saturday's game, we offered predictions from our in-house panel of experts from The Post-Standard and syracuse.com , and asked syracuse.com Orange fans for their predictions.
• This week, two of our four panelists -- syracuse.com producer Katie Kramer and former SU player Lavar Lobdell -- took off their orange-colored glasses and correctly predicted that the Bearcats would beat SU ...
Katie Kramer: " Cincinnati 17, Syracuse 10: The inconsistency of this Syracuse team makes it hard to know which team will show up, and hard to predict who will actually win. I'm going to try reverse psychology (because I'm always wrong anyway) and say that even though Cincinnati may use a QB named Munchie, they'll beat the Orange." Lavar Lobdell: " Cincinnati 35, Syracuse 21: I've been wrong before, why should this week be any different? With post-season play still looming and the league's most potent offense rolling in town, the Orange fight strong but fail to put up the points late when it counts. The Orange fall 35-21 and keep their bowl hopes in the air."
• Syracuse continues to shake the faith of the Orange faithful on syracuse.com. Of the 20 fans who made a prediction, half picked UC over SU. Here's a sampling ...
gbpackman: "This is the season for SU. 3 game losing streak coming into the final home game of the season. SU needs to avoid the mistakes and start strong. That being said, they've looked awful lately. I'll be cheering hard for the 'Cuse, but I think that their inconsistency and mistakes get the best of them again. Cincinnati 27 SU 24 ." orangegal: "Cuse still can't stop the run, now without Phillip T missing- Isiah Pead runs for 125 and 'Cuse loses 23-14 . Munchie looks like Landry Jones against our pass-rush less 'D' just as BJ Daniels looked RGIII from Baylor last game." Tartanman: " Cincy 24, SU 14 ... SU has not shown it can beat any other team in a convincing way (except WVU- still a plesant mystery?). And with the recent many losses, SU can't get it together again." newnhorange: "There's a theoretical chance that three teams in the Big East could finish this season at 6-6, making it possible that two 6-6 teams actually get league tied-in bowl invites. Will Syracuse be one of them? Saturday is crucial. The Orange play harder, but at times seem more concerned with just not making mistakes, rather than willing to roll the dice and take the chances a team has to in order to pull off a desperately needed upset. Combining that with a disinterested and small student-less crowd, and the Orange's historic inability to take advantage of inexperienced opposing quarterbacks, results in a 31-19 downer . It could be a long winter for SU oblong ball fans."
• syracuse.com user cristobal711 came closest to accurately guessing the final score, predicting a 31-10 win for Cincinnati , while syr621 's pick of 24-6 UC was closest to the actual 17-point difference.
With just one game left in the regular season, Syracuse must beat the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road this Saturday to become bowl eligible. Look for our expert panel's predictions, and a chance to make your own, Thursday on syracuse.com .
