If you're looking for your suitcase and trying to pack up last-minute toiletries, you're not alone. AAA predicts more people who live in the Tri-State are hitting the road for Thanksgiving this year than last year. Many people choosing to fly as well.
At the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport this morning, there was already a line of travelers waiting to clear security at 5 a.m. today. AAA says 4.4% more Ohioans and about 4% more Kentuckians are expected to travel this Thanksgiving than last. The auto club credits the spike on pent up demand from people who are traveling after three years of staying home.
In all, AAA predicts 4.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving holiday. The vast majority - about 38.5% will drive... so you can expect some crowded roadways.
If you're planning on flying, expect a full flight. 3.4 million people are expected to fly to their destination and that's a 1.8% increase from last year. At CVG, more than 8000 people went through security the Wednesday before Thanksgiving last year. Airport officials say today is one of the busiest days of the year so plan ahead and come early!
If you're planning on driving, the average price of a gallon of gas is $3.35.. that's 50-cents more than travelers had to pay last year.
