Mobilewalla's Top 50 Reveals Who Makes the Best Smartphone Apps

Ever wonder who thought up and created your favorite app? The developers themselves are now being recognized for their success in creating apps that users love.

Mobilewalla, a search and discovery engine for the mobile marketplace announced on Wednesday the “Mobilewalla 50,” a list of this year's top app developers -- large and small, across continents and platforms. The winners range from productivity app creators to entertainment and game makers.

“The MW50 is a group of quality mobile app developers that create apps that users love,” Anindya Datta, founder and executive chairman of Mobilewalla , told FoxNews.com. “They have been chosen to represent developers large and small, internationally diverse and they create apps for a variety of categories and platforms.”

Each winner received a high grade on the MW Developer Reputation Score (MDRS). MDRS is a numerical value between 0 and 100 that indicates how good the developer is on a given platform.

Mobilewalla uses a set of analytics to create a score for every app in the website's system. These scores are representations of how successful or popular an app is at a given time, based on number of downloads, user reviews and more. For example an Android app with a score of 90 is considered more successful than one that scores 70.

The top 50 list is intended to help consumers differentiate among apps based on author reputation, as book and movie consumers often do.

Here are a few of the 2011 winners from the Mobilewalla 50:
