Alleged Craigslist pot seller sentenced | TheUnion.com

• A Nevada County man arrested after allegedly threatening two hikers with an illegal assault rifle was sentenced Thursday to 45 days in jail.

Tyler Ray Rustin, 27, was arrested in April after he allegedly walked out of a home near Bixler Place in the area of Hidden Valley and Auburn roads and told the couple they were trespassing on private property. He then allegedly went into the house and emerged shortly thereafter with an AK-47 assault rifle, waving it in the air and making threats.

Rustin pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of possession of an assault rifle, and was sentenced to 45 days in jail and summary court probation, with the possibility of alternative sentencing. He must also forfeit the weapon.

• A Nevada City woman will stand trial on local charges of possession of marijuana for sale and cultivation of marijuana, after being arrested in Missouri while allegedly trying to haul pot concealed inside Christmas presents.

Brooke Molina, 28, was driving a rented Ford Escape with Nevada plates near Joplin, Mo., when she was stopped in December 2009 by a Missouri Highway Patrol officer, allegedly for speeding. Troopers allegedly found numerous wrapped Christmas presents in the cargo area of her vehicle containing 20 one-pound bags of processed marijuana.

Nevada County Sheriff's deputies searched Molina's residence in Nevada County and allegedly found an indoor marijuana garden with 20 plants, about 40 pounds of processed marijuana in one-pound bags packaged for sale, 18 Rubbermaid totes containing marijuana bud on the stem, and marijuana shake — bits of leaves left over from trimming the buds. The totes allegedly contained another 30 to 40 pounds of marijuana.

Deputies also allegedly found Christmas wrapping paper that matched the boxes found in Molina's car in Missouri.

A felony complaint was filed in Nevada County on May 23. After a preliminary examination Tuesday, sufficient evidence was found to try Molina on the charges. She will be formally arraigned at 1:30 p.m. July 11.
