NIAGARA FALLS — Recognizing the need to serve more and more struggling families and individuals, the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission is leading the 500 Meal Mission initiative in Niagara Falls.
Mission staff and volunteers from area churches and the community will prepare 500 home-cooked complete turkey dinners and deliver them to the homes of the homebound, seniors, families and anyone in need.
The Rescue Mission is not yet “sold out” of its 500 meal capacity, so those desiring a meal can call 716-253-1463 to place an order free of charge to any household in the Falls or adjacent town.

“We teamed with local churches to make sure no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving,” said Shaun Smith, executive director of the mission. “Niagara Falls has been the ‘forgotten city,’ of Western New York for too long and we’re seeing levels of poverty and urban blight that even Buffalo doesn’t have. Our purpose is to alleviate some of this by providing a complete, home-cooked turkey dinner while also bringing some of God’s love along with it.”
If you aren’t in need of a dinner but would like to help out the mission, today’s Gazette contains a donation envelope for the mission. A second donation envelope will be included in Nov. 28’s edition.
Last year, the Niagara Gospel Rescue Mission served more than 3,000 meals through its Outreach Center and Mobile RV Soup Kitchen. The mission has opened its new men’s shelter at 1023 Ferry Ave. and is hoping to expand to full capacity by the years end. The mission will provide over 6,000 nights of shelter care per year.
