Before this current Houston Texans team, there have been five other professional football teams with the nickname Texans. The Kansas City Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans. There was an original Dallas Texans NFL team that folded in 1952. There was a prior Houston Texans that eventually moved to Shreveport, Louisiana that played in the 1974World Football League. Yet another team played as the Dallas Texans in the 1990’s, this time in theArena FootballLeague. Finally, when the Sacramento Gold Miners of theCanadian Football Leaguemoved to San Antonio for their final year before folding they played as the San Antonio Texans. Quarterback David Carr tied an NFL record by completing 22 consecutive passes in a game. Mark Brunell had set the record a few weeks earlier on the exact same field. At the time, when the Texans drafted Amobi Okoye in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft he was the youngest player ever drafted by an NFL team at 19 years old.
The first points scored in Houston Texans history came on a touchdown pass from rookie quarterback David Carr to tight end Billy Miller on the third play from scrimmage during the team’s first game. When after their first season as a team both cornerback Aaron Glenn and defensive lineman Gary Walker were named to the Pro Bowl, the Houston Texans became the first expansion team to ever send more than one player to the Pro Bowl. During the 2007 season, in a game against theMiami Dolphins, Texans kicker Kris Brown became the first kicker in the history of the NFL to successfully kick three field goals of 54 yards or longer in one game. The Houston Texans were victorious in their first appearance on Monday Night Football when near the end of the 2008 regular season they defeated theJacksonville Jaguars30-17.
