Inspire Boxing gains respect

NIAGARA FALLS — Over the last year, Niagara Falls’ Inspire Boxing Club has earned the respect of other clubs not only in Western New York, but throughout New York state.

This Saturday, Inspire will test just how far it’s come at the third annual Carmen Basilio Quest For Champions USA vs. Canada amateur boxing card at the Watertown Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall.

“We’re just honored for them to pick us to be in a major tournament in our first year,” Inspire owner and trainer Stacy Robinson said. “These fighters have been traveling every month upstate, downstate ... it’s just a blessing all the hard work these people have put in. I’m overwhelmed right now.”

Robinson said that Niagara Falls residents Jeremy Grace (132 pounds), Eric George (165) and Keith Lindsey (170) will represent Inspire and the United States on the international card.

“(Professional cruiserweight) Terry Carter really opened the door for these fighters,” Robinson said. “They look up to him and want to go forward like him. I just want them to go win it for the USA. I’m very proud of all of them.”

n Carter will fight in his second career professional bout next month in Atlanta, according to Robinson. In his debut, the former state Golden Gloves champion fought to a draw.

“We’re preparing every day for that second fight,” Robinson said. “Every day we’re working on new stuff and he’s getting stronger. He looks more and more confident. He’s ready.”

n At a recent show at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, Lindsey and George were among the winners from Inspire. Mikayla Jones (150 pounds) also won despite being knocked down in the third round, while Mikiah Kreps (132) dropped a close decision.
