NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y., Sep 21, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cataract Steel Industries, Inc., (CSI) has announced the addition of Jim Willett as product manager over the company's Custom Shell & Tube manufacturing division. Willett spent the last 23 years with API Heat Transfer in Cheektowaga, N.Y., where most recently he was engineering manager over a division of heat-exchange designers and drafters.
"Jim Willett brings an invaluable breadth of industry experience to Cataract Steel, and we are proud to have him as part of our team," said CSI President Scott Costanzo. "Jim's addition is another indication of the strategic steps we're taking to position ourselves to win in the marketplace."
Willett earned a bachelor of science degree in marine engineering with a minor in nuclear engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1982. He spent a year at sea with the Merchant Marines before working as a nuclear field services and project engineer in the marine manufacturing industry. He joined API in 1988 as a sales manager of engineered products.
Willett has served as a technical representative to the Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association for seven years, and was appointed the organization's chairman in April of 2010. He is an expert in the thermal and mechanical design of heat-transfer equipment and pressure vessels, and while at API, he enhanced the company's thermal system rating software that aided the design and manufacturing processes.
"I was attracted to Cataract Steel because the thermal and engineering processes are integral, with no hand-off between departments," Willett said. "That eliminates confusion, as the entire team is involved in the engineering process. The end product is custom tailored the customer's needs, and the workflow really allows me to concentrate on the business of building relationships and delivering products that exceed expectations."
