Just got a call from Elvis Orr, the No. 1-ranked cornhole player in the world in the American Cornhole Organization's rankings.
He and partner David Wright of Newport News were playing in FM99 's first cornhole tournament to raise funds for the Christmas Wish Fund. The event was held at NASCAR Sports Grill in Hampton and run by Virginia Beach Cornhole.
Orr, of Chesapeake, and Wright ended up winning the event.
They faced the Bishop brothers - Steve and Jimmy - two guys quickly making a name for themselves in the local cornhole scene - in the FM99 final. The Bishop brothers beat Elvis and myself in a tournament at the Hickory Ruritan Club a few weeks ago. It was my first big tournament. That one was on me. Elvis held his own while Jimmy put it on me in the final frame. That's cornhole.
Saturday in the FM99 event, Elvis had a better partner and managed to gain the victory.
Elvis is gearing up for the King of Cornhole tournament early next year to determine the world's best. That's a singles competition where you don't have to depend on a partner's game - or lack there of.

Congrats to Elvis and Wright on their win. And congrats to the Bishop brothers for making another final.
We all know we're going to hear plenty about Elvis in the coming weeks. I have the feeling that Jimmy and Steve Bishop are going to be rocking it as well.
