Leaves changing, closets changing

Popular fall fashion trends this season include rich colors and layers emphasizing fit as well as c

The weather is cooler, the leaves are changing colors and fall looks are ready to rock. This means layering with rich colors and designs, for this year's trends are all about staying warm while looking fierce.

Ladies, we all know we love to be comfy while walking to classes, so strutting your stuff with oversized sweaters and jackets are a must. Carly Tynes , a sophomore public relations major and fashion merchandising minor, said men's styled jackets are a necessity this fall season.

"You can wear a simple tee under the jacket or something with a little more sex appeal, but either way you can look effortless and stylish with this one simple clothing item," Tynes said.

The jacket is an easy fix for a chic look. Tynes added that layering oversized sheer shirts with a colored cami underneath and a beautiful necklace is a fashionable way to show off your personality.

When explaining what fashion means to her, Tynes said, "Fashion is independently defined. Each person has their own interpretation of fashion."

Tynes finds the clothes she loves the most at Forever21 and online at Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie .

Patterns with pops of colors are also popular this season. Funky, bold and loud patterns will set one apart from the rest.

Audrianna Strickland, a sophomore speech pathology major, shows off her quirky style in skinny jeans and bright colored items like belts, handbags and big rings. Strickland said the mantra "Fashion fades but only style remains," coined by Coco Chanel.

"This fall season seems to be going more toward the punk-chic 80s style," Strickland said. Bright colors, whether in oversized high-waisted pants or different layered necklaces, are all the rage right now.

As she sported her tan Steve Madden boots featuring a red zipper, Strickland added it is essential to have boots this season.

Strickland also believes one can make a statement on a college budget.

"It might not be easy, but buying one high ticket item, like the boots or oversized jacket, can be paired throughout the season with simple looks such as tees and jeans," Strickland said. She also saves money by shopping at flea markets and consignment shops such as Polly Esther's Closet.

One can find all these items around Hattiesburg at places like Eve Marie's and Click Boutique. You can't go wrong by rocking the fall trends.

To recap, layering with jackets, cardigans and blazers are a great way to stay warm and look cute. Make bold statements with bright colored accessories and don't forget the boots.

Men, if ask any lady on campus, she will say she loves when you dress up your style, even just a little.

"I like my outfit to tell a story, to describe my personality and the way I carry myself without me having to say a word," said Taylor Booth, a senior fashion merchandising major.

Along with the ladies, Booth stated the trends this fall for men are pea coats, shawl collared cardigans, scarves and a pair or two of boots. Flannel shirts and dark washed jeans never fail, and they can be played up with a v-neck, blazer and leather watch.

Even if shorts stick around in November, pairing them with a long sleeve colored polo and contrasting sweater looks more fashion forward.

Make your mark and look fashionable this fall season by trying on these style trends.
