Crack supplier nabbed by cops

NIAGARA FALLS — A Falls crack cocaine supplier, who had “floated below the radar” for awhile, is now off the streets and under arrest.

Narcotics Division detectives charged Ezera Charles Garner on Tuesday, after a raid at his 21st Street home. Garner, 47, 2740 21st St., was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

“We didn’t know a lot about him initially,” Narcotics Division Capt. Morris Shamrock said. “But a couple of months ago, we began to get some intel on him.”

Investigators were surprised at the amount of crack that Garner was pushing on to Cataract City streets.

“He was moving quite a bit of dope,” Shamrock said. “He was probably distributing about half a pound of crack a week.”

Shamrock said that Detectives Tom Rodriguez and John Galie, who led the investigation, discovered that Garner was actually supplying neighborhood crack houses, rather than selling the drugs himself.

“He was supplying seven to 10 locations, numerous times a week,” Shamrock said. “He was trying to minimize his exposure (to law enforcement) by (supplying) mid-level and lower-level dealers.”

When investigators raided Garner’s home, they seized 35 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and related materials. The estimated street value of the crack that detectives found was $1,900.

“If there were problem (crack) houses in the neighborhoods, he was fueling them (with drugs),” Shamrock said.
