Officials: 27 found inside suspected Phoenix drop house by Morgan Sailor and Carly Price on Oct. 14, 2011, under Arizona Republic News

Twenty-seven people suspected of being in the country illegally were found crammed in the bedroom of a west Phoenix home that authorities raided on Friday, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves said one man from the house near 99th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road was taken into custody on suspicion of human smuggling. Authorities were acting on a tip from relatives of those being held at the suspected drophouse.
“We got an out-of-state tip,” Graves said, who said that the relatives were “being extorted for money.”
. The 26 men and one woman were found crowded into a small, boarded-up room of the roughly 1,500-square-foot home. One person described being from Guatemala and the rest said they are from Mexico, Graves said.
The group is in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The investigation was a joint effort of ICE, the Phoenix Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
