Falls man sentenced on third DWI charge

LOCKPORT—Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza said Thursday she was astonished that Mario R. Luna of Niagara Falls drove drunk for a third time, after the second time nearly killed him.

She sentenced Luna to four months of weekends in jail, five years’ probation and a fine and surcharge totaling $1,520 for his guilty plea to felony driving while intoxicated. Luna, 30, of Whitney Avenue, was arrested Aug. 5, 2010, in North Tonawanda.

Sperrazza said Luna’s previous DWI conviction came after a crash that put him in a medically induced coma for several days.
