Some of the world’s most enduring celebrities have been raised from the dead – for a new comic aptly named Comeback Kings.

The story, with illustrations by Ethan Young, features late legends Bruce Lee, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, US actor and performance artist Andy Kaufman, and Tupac Shakur, as a secret team of spies with supernatural powers, who are shown to have faked their own deaths as part of the world-saving Project Resurrection.

Writers Matt Sullivan and Gabe Guarente say they were inspired to create the comic because many of the featured celebrities’ fans believe their heroes faked their own deaths.

'There are reasons why people want to believe that the conspiracy theories are true,' said Guarente.

'It's part of the complicated grieving process. All these heroes were taken away from us too soon, when they were pretty young. So it's comforting to believe they're still kicking around somewhere, doing their thing.'

US rapper Tupac, who has been “spotted” all over the world since his death, provides particular fascination.

“Tupac's Machiavelli fixation and constant references to his own death also lend themselves to doubts,” said Guarente.

The first two issues of Comeback Kings will soon be available digitally on iVerse, while issue two will also make its print debut at the New York Comic Con in October.
